Revisiting E3 2021’s Biggest Announcements – SEAGM News

It was an exciting week for the gaming industry.  Gaming fans around the world got to witness some of their favorite developers and studios reveal many upcoming titles as well as products at the E3 2021 Summer Conference. From Ubisoft to Capcom, there were many noteworthy moments that we’ll be revisiting here.

Day 1

Ubisoft Forward

First, Ubisoft officially kicked off E3 with a brand new game from a beloved series:

Rainbow Six: Extraction

Fans of the series can now play as one of their favorite Rainbow Six operators . Moreover, the game allows up to 3 players to work together and battle an evolving alien threat. Besides that, it’s also safe to say that Ubisoft have turned up the mechanics a little as players will now need to go back and rescue your teammates when they’re down or suffer the consequences.

Rocksmith+

If you play the guitar and into video games, chances are you’ve heard of the Rocksmith franchise. The series is back with Rocksmith+ and guitar enthusiasts can learn how to play their favourite songs in a fun way. It works on acoustic, electric and even bass guitar with real-time feedback.

 

 

Riders Republic

With a combination of  mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit flying, and rocket wingsuits in one connected experience.   The game allows players to be in a multiplayer playground with 50 others simultaneously.

 

Far Cry 6

Ubisoft’s most anticipated games coming out in 2021, the 6th installment to the Far Cry franchise focuses on a new villain named Anton Castillo, a ruthless dictator. On top of that, Ubisoft has announced a post-game season pass where players can play as previous Far Cry villains including Vaas Montenegro, Pagan Min and Joseph Seed.

 

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Mario and the Rabbids are back to team up once again. Ubisoft announced that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will be getting its sequel in 2022. Fans had a first look at the quirky and fun gameplay trailer which showcased the fun team up adventure that fans can expect.

 

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Possibly one of the most ambitious games that Ubisoft announced this year, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It will be a first-person action adventure game and developed through Ubisoft’s Snowdrop Engine. Additionally, the first look trailer showcased a beautifully vast scenery of a vibrant Pandora, followed by a fast paced action sequence.

 

Gearbox Software

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Borderlands developer, Gearbox Software has announced that their fan favourite character, Tiny Tina, is back in a spinoff game. This game is a follow-up to the Borderlands 2 DLC: Assault on Dragon Keep, with more of a fantasy flavor.

Godfall

Gearbox announced that Godfall will be available on PS4 and a free PS5 upgrade. It will also feature cross-gen play which is quite exciting.

Day 2

Xbox & Bethesda

The Xbox and Bethesda presentation was possibly one of, if not the biggest highlights of this year’s E3. With games like Starfield and Halo Infinite, fans have been raving about the release dates.

Starfield

Bethesda kickstarted with Starfield. It is a sci-fi game that was described as “Skyrim in space”, and a “Han Solo simulator”.  During the presentation, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, explained that Starfield is about hope. The game was designed on the studio’s Creation Engine 2 and it’s said that it will improve graphical fidelity.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 Heart of Chernobyl

If you’re a fan of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, then you might be excited for what’s to come in the sequel. In fact, with up-to-date effects and graphics, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 Heart of Chernobyl focuses on a group of men who are obsessed with mutated and paranormal creatures that’s found in “The Zone”.

Contraband

This game is an interesting co-op open-world game from Avalanche Studios. The game is set in a fictional world of Bayan in the 1970s. It’s described as a co-op smuggler’s paradise.

Halo Infinite

The game fans of the Halo series have been waiting for, Halo Infinite. Not only does Master Chief return, but Cortana’s fate from Halo 5, is still a huge mystery. There’s also a free-to-play multiplayer mode for fans to enjoy.  Halo Infinite will be releasing during the holiday season this year.

Diablo 2 Resurrected

If you’re a fan of the original Diablo 2, you must have enjoyed seeing Diablo 2 being remastered and resurrected. After 21 years, fans of the series get to play the classic in an updated and improved version.

The Outer Worlds 2

There wasn’t much announcement to The Outer Worlds 2 except that it’s happening. Instead fans were treated to a satire trailer that commented on other video game trailers.

Atomic Heart

A fun and exciting new game that feels like a Bioshock meets Cyberpunk 2077. It’s planned for a Playstation, Xbox and Windows release.

Forza Horizon 5

A beauty and an upgrade in racing games, players will get to drive around Mexico. Race across the beautiful lands of Mexico and enjoy the exquisite sceneries as players can also hear their dream cars roaring through the streets.

Redfall

Arkane Studios’ Redfall is a vampire-themed, open-world co-op shooter with a diverse cast. In addition, fans were treated to a  first look trailer and it sure looks like it’ll be a fun game to play among friends. Players will also be able to team up in squads up to four to take on bloodsucking vampires by all means.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

A sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence is coming. During the presentation, Bethesda showcased a breathtaking atmospheric cinematic trailer evoking a lot of the same feelings as its predecessor.  It’ll be coming to Xbox consoles and Windows in 2022.

Square Enix

Guardians of the Galaxy

Alas, another Marvel project from Square Enix. The studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy was one of its biggest highlights this year Though fans have had mixed feelings about their version of The Avengers, it seems that the they wil studio is taking a slightly different route. Players get to play as the wise-cracking Star Lord. On top of that, they get to choose the path of the game’s storyline and conversations. But only time will tell if Square Enix have made fans happy with their second chance of developing a Marvel game.

Babylon’s Fall

Babylon’s Fall was definitely not forgotten this year as Square Enix showcased the game’s trailer. The hack ‘n’ slash style game also reminded fans that the game would feel similar to the popular Nier titles.

Nier Reincarnation

Speaking of looking like Nier games, Nier Reincarnation will be the very first mobile game from the franchise. Judging from the graphics we saw from the trailer, it looks like it will be a big hit with fans.

 

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Fans was left wanting more information on this Final Fantasy spinoff. Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin looks like a beautiful game but not much information was given thus far.

 

Life is Strange: True Colors

Square Enix brought more treats to its presentation as they revealed more information on  their latest Life is Strange chapter, True Colors. Furthermore, the game focuses on Alex Chen, the protagonist who has the power of empathy. Players will also get to relive the similar Life Is Strange game mechanics and it’s developed by the team behind Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

 

Hitman Sniper: The Shadows

Besides getting to play Hitman 3 quite recently, Square Enix announced that there will be a spinoff/ sequel to the Hitman series. Based on the trailer, Hitman Sniper takes place after the events of Hitman 3.

 

Capcom

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

A spinoff from the Ace Attorney games was announced. Additionally, it’ll be released on July 27 and it will exclusively be on Nintendo Switch. Players will also be able to team up with Herlock Sholmes (a satire to Sherlock Holmes perhaps) to investigate crime scenes, fighting for justice and searching for the truth.

Day 4

Nintendo

Possibly the presentation that made everyone’s year happy, Nintendo announced a good amount of games as well as a first look at Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds sequel.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania

Super Monkey Ball celebrates its 20th anniversary with this now game which features three of its classic predecessors: Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2 and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.

 

Mario Party Superstars

The Mario Party series will be heading to the Nintendo Switch console October this year. The game will include more party maps as well as a multiplayer feature.

Metroid Dread

Next, after more than 19 years, fans will get to enjoy a new and improved Metroid game on Nintendo Switch. Speaking of Metroid, Nintendo has also announced that they will be working on Metroid Prime 4.

WarioWare: Get It Together 

Mario’s arch-nemesis, Wario is back with his own game called WarioWare: Get It Together. It allows players to enjoy a 2-player multiplayer mode and several mini games.

Shin Megami Tensei V

The beloved roleplaying game where players get to team up with demons to save the world is back and we cannot wait to get our hands on the game and play it!

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel

Finally, fans can journey back to Hyrule as the highly anticipated sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was announced.

Bandai Namco

Elden Ring

If you love the Game of Thrones TV series, then chances are Elden Ring, a sequel to Dark Souls, is something you are truly excited about. Written by George R. R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, this action role playing game is scheduled to release in early 2022.

Tales of Arise

A new trailer for Tales of Arise was also revealed at E3. Moreover, this JRPG game is definitely one that fans of the genre should keep an eye on.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

For fans of the horror genre, The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes is definitely one game to look out for. This survival horror game tells a story of a group Special Forces unearthing a buried Sumerian temple which contained a nest of ancient creatures. What’s interesting is that this game allows players to go through the story several times. Each new game is influenced by real world events, whether it’s fact, fiction or legend and each with different stories, settings and characters.

 

DLCs and Remasters

Here are some DLCs that were announced at the conference:

 

YES!!! More news on Super Smash Bros.!  More importantly, the game will feature a beloved Tekken character, The Iron Fist of Darkness, Kazuya Mishima

Moreover, Ubisoft announced that there will be more content to come for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Black Panther is coming to Square Enix’s Avengers game. Wakanda Forever!
