One of the earliest battle royale game is getting a facelift. H1Z1 will cease to exist and will now be known as Z1 Battle Royale. Daybreak Games, the developers behind H1Z1, is also laying down staff who were working on the survival game, Just Survive. After they have reformed the team, the developers plan to just focus their resources and effort on Z1 Battle Royale.

Z1 Battle Royale the future?

The battle royale game was first released back in early January 2015 with great reception from the gaming community. A year later, the game was divided into two namely H1Z1: King of the Kill and H1Z1: Just Survive. H1Z1 was then rebranded multiple times and the latest name was called H1Z1: Battle Royale. The developers recently opted to rebrand it again into Z1 Battle Royale, effectively removing their legacy known as H1Z1.
Their latest patch aimed at changing how the weapons work, setting the climate and ensuring smoother matchmaking. A couple of tweaks were made like bullet speed, fire rate and recoil of weapons. When you go into the game it will always be sunny and at 2 p.m. of the day. Finally, the matchmaking queue will be set to a max of 135 seconds. After that, players in the queue will go straight into the game regardless of the number of players waiting. Not to mention that all matches from now on will always be ranked matches.

Just Survive couldn’t survive.

The number of players within the game was just too little for the devs to maintain the game. Daybreak Games mentioned that Just Survive will cease to see the light of day after October 24 at 11 AM PT. Players can still go into the game and enjoy its last moments until its closure. The devs made sure to turn off all Steam purchases and in-game transactions from now on. If you’ve spent a dime in the game on Steam, you can click here to find out if you’re eligible to get a refund.
With the rise of PlayerUnknown’s Battleground and strong following of Fortnite, Z1 Battle Royale has a lot to do to have a fighting chance. Especially when these two games mentioned above already have mobile and console ports of their own. Daybreak Games need to step up and do a lot more than just making small changes to be able to bring Z1 back to relevance.
