Upon release, Ghost of Tsushima has been doing nothing except hitting all the right notes. With Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, that streak is continuing satisfyingly.
From delivering bug-free powerful graphics at launch with an equally powerful story to match, to receiving a free bonus “Lethal” difficulty update within a month after release, Ghost of Tsushima is continuing to please its consumer base with even more free content.
In fact, just a few days ago Sucker Punch Productions announced that over two million online matches were played within one week of release. If that doesn’t scream success, I’m not sure what does.
What Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Adds to the Game
The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends update brings a new multiplayer experience to the game. There are two new modes that players can indulge in. A story mode, with explores Japanese folklore from a new perspective, as well as a survival mode.
In Legends, you start off by controlling one out of four classes of “Ghosts”. By doing story missions and survival games, you rank up your “Ghost”.
A Healthy Grind of a Progression System
Ranking up allows you to progress your skill tree similar to how you grow Jin Sakai’s “Legend” in the base game. Additionally, you also get rewards in the form of weapons, armor, and cosmetics for completing missions and objectives. This all makes for a very satisfying and addictive progression system.
Legends has you controlling “Ghosts”. Similar to Jin Sakai, they have a maverick approach to solving problems; assassinations dirty tricks all get the green light here.
What’s great about Legends is that it takes the core gameplay of the base game, but segments the plot so that you tackle the challenges level by level. It’s a great way to maintain pace and momentum for the grinding-based nature of the Legends expansion.
The New Class and Loot System adds a Layer of Strategy
Another notable change in Legends is its loot system. In Ghost of Tsushima, you max-out Jin’s stats, which eventually makes him a masterful warrior on the battlefield in addition to being the deadliest assassin of the shadows. In Legends, you control one of four Ghost classes:
Each of them have their own unique perks and skills, making them particularly useful for different situations.
For example, the Hunter can fire explosive arrows which can knockdown multiple enemies from afar, setting them up for quick assassinations. Ronin, on the other hand, can perform the support skill “Izanami’s Breath”, which revives all downed allies. Assassins can thin out unsuspecting herds of enemies with their stealth passives, and Samurai can deal devastating damage to enemies with high HP.
In conclusion, each class are uniquely buffed, and having a balanced team composition is essential for efficient gameplay. Players also have a reason to tackle harder difficulties to obtain better loot, which gives them access to better passives and higher stats.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends also brings Base Game Upgrades
In addition to adding what essentially is a $30 dollar expansion for FREE, this update also brings various bug fixes and updates to the base game.
There is now a New Game+ mode, which allows you to replay the epic adventure with all your gear and techniques at a higher optional difficulty. There is also additional content in the form of a mysterious new merchant offering brand new cosmetics and game altering charms.
Even More Updates On the Way
Sucker Punch has also announced that a new Legends mode, “Raid”, will debut October 30. It will bring a squad of four to face off against the most difficult challenge yet Legends has to offer.
Beware, unlike the “Survival” and “Story” modes, “Raid” doesn’t provide online matchmaking. Players will need to bring their own squads to face off against the threat in the “Tale of Iyo”. Sucker Punch greatly recommends that players bring level 100 KI gear to this three-chapter battle.
