It has been approximately 20 years since we’ve seen a true sequel announced for this series, and then in another 2020 curveball (other than the Coronavirus), a trailer for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was released!
An enhanced bandicoot?
Now if you’re not familiar with the Crash Bandicoot series of video games, then let’s take a short walk through history. It’s a platforming series that was ORIGINALLY created by the same guys who’s behind The Last of Us 2, back when they were ACTUALLY at Naughty Dog.
Just like how Sega pits Sonic the Hedgehog against Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman), the series revolves around an enhanced bandicoot named Crash, and his “creator”, Doctor Neo Cortex (get the “Doctor” part?). Crash sets out to defeat Cortex (who’s looking to destroy his failed experiment) and foil his plans for world domination.
In short, it is quite a comical series with a ton of funny scenes, including ones where Crash actually fails a level, or loses a life. Moreover, it’s a pretty decent story that leaves us gamers wanting more after each one, which brings us to…
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time
The game picks up decades after the events of Crash Bandicoot: Warped (also known as Crash Bandicoot 3). Cortex, Dr. N. Trophy, and Uka Uka were defeated and left stranded on a distant planet. The trio escapes, resulting in a rip in the fabric of space and time. Once again, Crash Bandicoot, alongside Coco (which is also a playable character) sets out to save the day.
The game sticks to its platformer origins, breathing new life into an old school way of playing a game, but with new additions. This time, Crash defy’s gravity, slows time down, and bends the laws of physics to get past enemies and barriers. It’s a fresh spin on yet another “Cosmic Conflict”.
To close it off, we’d say that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a pretty awesome title that’s not to be missed. It’s developed by Activision and Toys for Bob, and the N.Sane Trilogy port to the Nintendo Switch was awesome. In other words, we can’t wait till October 2nd 2020 when it’s launched!
