The Battle-Royale genre of gaming has certainly paved it’s own way hasn’t it? With so many titles, with different variations, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Now, Apex Legends is set for a Steam and Nintendo Switch release! When you ask?
What is Apex Legends?
Back in February 2019, developers Respawn Entertainment and publishers Electronic Arts (EA) took the world by storm. Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale game. Similar to other titles within the genre, Apex has 20 squads, consisting of three members each, thrown onto an island. Each team goes head to head, making sure to stay within the shrinking play area. The last surviving team (or player left on a team) will be declared the winner(s).
Steam & Nintendo Switch Port
So the big news here is that Apex Legends is coming to Nintendo Switch, and of course Steam. It was revealed that a Nintendo Switch port has been in the works for a while now, and that it had its own set of challenges to overcome. However, it is looking really good and running very well. This, according to Game Director Chad Greiner.
That’s not all though, as the game will also be arriving with crossplay as one of the features for the Nintendo Switch version, providing an option for players to play matches with other players who are playing through a PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, regardless of whether it’s through Origin or Steam.
Apex Legends is set to land on both Steam and the Nintendo Switch this fall, in other words late September, or early October. It won’t be long now (about 3 months?) till we all get to experience the game on a handheld, in what would prove to be a pretty nice way to kill time in a train ride or something.
To conclude, It will be pretty interesting to see how Apex Legends performs on a handheld like Nintendo Switch (that has always been the case for ports onto the Switch hasn’t it?). Moreover, everyone’s probably wondering how crossplay will affect players who are on a joystick + buttons setup versus someone else who’s on a setup that’s more accurate for FPS gaming, mouse + keyboard.
