Organized by OnFlame, a local gaming channel, the After 5 Gaming League called for corporate companies in Malaysia to face off against each other – esports-style. Held at The Pantheon, the event lasted for the whole month of July. A total of 82 Malaysian companies faced off against each other in games like Dota 2, Fifa 18, Counter Strike: Global and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

Why After 5 Gaming League?

The After 5 Gaming League is a great concept. It’s basically a networking event with a twist. Bringing working adults together, the event wants to help companies get to know each other in a fun and casual setting. Sponsored by Acer Predator and Nvidia GeForce, the event has a rather big prize pool! A prize pool of MYR 30,00 was enough to get people excited.
This league is definitely the first of its kind. Well, in Malaysia at least. In America, there’s a similar league called The After Hours Gaming League. It’s definitely great to see such event being adapted locally. Project Manager, Clifford Lee said that he wants to be the first to provide an esports tournament for workers on a larger scale.

…If there can be badminton or futsal competitions being held for workers, we want to be the first to provide an esport tournament for workers on a larger scale. Thanks to Acer Predator and Nvidia GeForce, our first A5GL is ready to be launched in July. -Clifford lee, Project Manager of A5GL (Source)

From nine-to-five to best-of-five

Watching the players representing each company put on a show was a spectacle to behold. All we can say that is we’re definitely impress. Despite working a nine-to-five, it didn’t stop some of these teams from taking out time to practice. There are for sure teams who stood out and well, those are what who we call the winners. With the prize pool split evenly, the champions of each game took home MYR 4000. Besides that, each member of the team also walked away with one Predator Aethon 500. Next, the first runner-up got MYR 2500 plus one Predator Gaming Mouse. As for the second runner-up, the prize was MYR 1500.
Wonder which company took down their opponent in the best-of-five finals? Here are the winners.
DOTA 2 – Property Planet
FIFA 18 – AirAsia Berhad
CS: GO – EaProjectGunz
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang – Arachnid System Sdn Bhd
Apart from the competitive matches, event goers also had a chance to walk away with pretty dope gears. The lucky draw itself was worth MYR 7000. The biggest prize was definitely the Acer Predator laptop worth MYR 3999! Hopefully, the event turn-out will encourage the organizer to make A5GL can be bigger and better next year!
