Short for The Exiled Realm of Arborea, TERA is an MMORPG developed by the same company that made PUBG, Bluehole, Inc. The game was first released back in 2011 exclusively for PC. For the first time ever, TERA is finally coming to console. TERA console Open Beta event will begin on March 9 and end on March 11 for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

How TERA Feels On Console

Utilizing true action combat, TERA will feel right at home on a controller. This is a game where you’ll be exploring a vast world to fight BAMs (Big Ass Monsters, yep, no kidding). While most MMO’s utilize a point-and-click combat system, TERA will bring to players an entirely new experience. In true action combat, you will be actively avoiding damage telegraphs and have to actually position and aim your skills.

“We feel the results speak for themselves and we’re excited to get the game in the hands of players during our upcoming Open Beta event weekend. Consoles need a solid MMORPG and Tera is prepared to deliver.” – Matt Denomme, Sr. Product Manager at En Masse Entertainment

The game is also introducing several features to players on console. There’s an all-new lock-on system that’ll help players keep their sights on the enemy at all time. Next, Bluehole, Inc has also streamlined the main menu and inventory to make navigation much more accessible for players on the controller. Other features include a customizable radial menu for slotting skills, items and even emotes, an in-game party voice chat, gameplay broadcasting support and quick-chat menu.

TERA Console Open Beta Event Content

In the Open Beta, players will be restricted to a maximum of level 38. Only dungeons and battlegrounds in this level range will be playable. The playable dungeons include Bastion of Lok, Sinestral Manor, Saravash’s Ascent, and Cultist Refuge. Kumas Royal and Iron Battleground will be the only two playable battlegrounds for the Open Beta. Do note that character progression will be wiped once the Open Beta is over. This means none of the progress made will be carried over when the game launches.
The followings classes are available during Open Beta:

  • Archer
  • Berserker
  • Lancer
  • Mystic
  • Priest
  • Slayer
  • Sorcerer
  • Warrior
  • Brawler

How To Download TERA For Console

The size of the Open Beta client is a whopping 46 GB. With such a big sized file, it’s probably a good idea to pre-download it prior to the server going live. The Open Beta test client will become available at varying times. This depends on the platform and region. Here’s the list:
XBOX One: Wednesday, March 7 or Thursday, March 8 (TBD)
PlayStation 4 (NA/R1): Thursday, March 8
PlayStation 4 (EU/R2): Friday, March 9
There is no dedicated Open Beta server for SEA/R3 on the PlayStation 4. It is not impossible, however, to still participate in this TERA console Open Beta event. Since no PS Plus subscription is required to play TERA, simply make a new NA or EU PSN account and download from the PS Store. Do this at your own risk though since you will most likely experience lag issues.
If you’re a participant of the previous Technical Test, there’s no need to reinstall the client. However, there is a 35 GB update that you’ll need to download. TERA is set to launch for console Spring 2018. Check out the launch trailer above!
