Square Enix Promise To Fix Chrono Trigger

After a ton of backlash, Square Enix finally speaks up and promise to fix Chrono Trigger, a beloved JRPG that was recently released on Steam. Upon release, the Steam port (which is disappointingly just a re-port of the mobile version) has garnered generally negative reviews due to its terrible graphics and horrendous mobile UI.

They Sure Seemed Triggered

To add insult to injury, several customers are reporting performance issues despite meeting the minimum system requirements. The fact that Square Enix decided to charge $15 for a Steam mobile port, that has apparently no effort put into it, definitely enraged fans.

Garbage level port from their smartphone port. The SNES and DS versions are amazing, this one has terrible issues like lag when running, auto talking scenes stopping mid sentence then disappearing, and a complete garbage combat ui. The font on the text is terrible(which I normally wouldn’t care about but it’s that bad) and the “smooth” pixels are garbage.
Of course, the game jarring issues don’t happen for a few hours in to make sure you can’t get a refund. Just another example on how garbage steam is getting, and how cheap sqeenix is. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Giving Chrono Trigger a dislike is the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my life… ♥♥♥♥ you Square Enix.

In fact, many of the few positive reviews of the product highlighted the game’s flaws.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPG’s ever made. I had it on SNES, then lost it. I am very glad it is finally on Steam.
Yes. It is a crappy port. Yes, the controls cannot be modified. If you cannot live with the massive issues like that, stay away from this game and play it on another platform. It’s pricey, too. Maybe they would have been better off using the ROM. To me, it is worth it. This game holds a very special place in my heart.

You can read more angry reviews here to entertain yourself if you would like to. SE finally responded by announcing that they’ll be patching the game continuously over the next few months. While it quelled some of the hate, most fans are still upset and angry, some even pointing out that this isn’t the first time SE has pulled the same move. Some people are even trying to use the momentum to get SE to fix its other ports such as Final Fantasy V, VI, and XI, as well as the PC port of one of the top games of 2017, Nier Automata.

What are your opinions on the matter? Are you willing to pay $15 for a tampered masterpiece on a convenient platform, or would you rather dust off that old SNES and experience the golden days once again through a CTR TV?
