5 Reasons You Should Get One Piece Odyssey
If You’re A One Piece Fan
One Piece Odyssey is an RPG game meant for long-time One Piece fans. That said, if you’re someone who’s just a casual fan of Straw Hats, then it can be a hit or miss for you. Due to the rich history of the anime series, One Piece can be a chore to follow if you didn’t start from the very beginning. But, if you have time, it’s fun to be somewhat invested in.
So, One Piece Odyssey’s story is not canon but you can enjoy it more if you’re a One Piece fan from the early days.
If You’re Into Anime Games
If you played Dragon Ball, Naruto, and other anime games, you might like One Piece Odyssey. Although other anime games seemed to be open-world adventure games, this turn-based game is unique. It has been done before yes, but with the upgraded graphics and storytelling catered to fans who are familiar with One Piece, it is definitely fun to play.
If Turn-Based RPG Is Your Jam
Are turn-based games your jam? Then, you might want to consider playing One Piece Odyssey. Why? Because of its classic RPG mechanics, where it takes you back in time like when you were playing Final Fantasy. Is it better than Marvel’s Midnight Suns though? Well, that depends on which fandom or lore you enjoy more.
If You Want To Play A Stress-Free Game
If you’re looking to have a fun night of gaming without having to worry about toxic gamers or having to think too much about strategy, then this is another reason why you might enjoy this game. Although turn-based games need you to think about a strategy to win One Piece Odyssey is pretty chilled out. The combat loop is pretty simple and straightforward. In other words, it’s kinda easy to pick up.
If You Have A PlayStation
This is more of a personal preference but I do feel that this game plays much better on console, especially the PlayStation. The reason is because of the graphics. If you’re not using NVIDIA RTX 3000 series and above, you’re better off playing on console. It plays better and looks better than PC. Kinda like how playing FIFA on PlayStation vs PC.
5 Reasons NOT To Get
You Have A Busy Schedule
If you’re on a busy schedule and can’t really afford to spend time on games, then One Piece Odyssey is one that you can skip. It’s not a must-play game. Even if you are a One Piece fan, this story in non-canon, so you can choose to skip this story while watching the anime/ reading the manga.
Don’t Expect It To Be Like Genshin Impact
Yeap. As an RPG game, it doesn’t feel as good as Genshin Impact, in terms of playability and storyline. But it is a nice game nonetheless, just that if you were to compare the two, you’re better off playing Genshin Impact. PLUS, Genshin is Free to Play.
It’s Not Mind Blowing Like Elden Ring or God of War
Yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh…. It goes without saying. God of War and Elden Ring set the bar high last year and in a way, kinda spoiled us with the hype and delivery. One Piece Odyssey fell short for me and just doesn’t seem to capture my attention within the first few minutes of gameplay.
If You Don’t Like Turn-Based Games
One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based game, so if you don’t like this genre of games, then there’s really no reason for you to dive into it.
There Are Other Games Better Than One Piece Odyssey
Games like XCOM, Persona series or even Marvel’s Midnight Suns are games that have a more compelling story that almost anyone who doesn’t understand or know about the lore can jump in… Kinda like how the rebooted COD: Modern Warfare games show more care to its long time fans more.
Overview
At the end of the day, One Piece Odyssey is a game that if you don’t enjoy One Piece or anime in general, you wouldn’t be too keen on it. However, if you want to dip your feet into One Piece and find out what the hype is all about, then it is a good game for you to start. The story is compelling, the game mechanics is simple and straightforward and it tries its best to stay true to its lore. Overall, I’d say it’s a 6/10 game.
