MLB: The Show 21 to Release on Xbox Series X|S, Ending PS Exclusivity of 23 Years
The MLB: The Show 21 official website recently revealed more details of their upcoming title which includes the title’s cover star, release date, Xbox availability, and more.
MLB: The Show 21 will be the first title in the 23-year-running franchise to come to Xbox platforms. Additionally, this title will also support cross-save and cross-progression features. According to the game’s official website, it will only release on current and next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. There is, however, no announcement for a release on PC.
MLB: The Show 21 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One with cross play and cross-progression across all aforementioned platforms. It has a release date of April 20, 2021. Players can, however, get it four days earlier (April 16) by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of the game.
The latest entry to the MLB franchise introduces new game modes that will not have any exclusivity between Xbox and PlayStation. Feature exclusivity is common in modern games, for example, Call of Duty’s numerous “Play It First on PlayStation” game modes. These game modes include Cold War’s Zombies mode as well as Modern Warfare’s Survival. Considering The Show 21 is being developed by San Diego Studio which is one of PlayStation Studios, this is a fortunate situation for players.
New game modes to MLB: The Show 21 include:
- Casual – for quick and fun games.
- Simulation – for the authentic MLB experience
- Competitive – for head-to-head competitive games where stick-skill is key.
Fernando Tatis Jr. is the cover star for the title. Additionally, Jackie Robinson is rumored to star the cover of the Deluxe Edition of the game.
