Is Microsoft trying to delay PUBG getting a PlayStation 4 release?

PUBG has been a PC exclusive since it’s release earlier this year. After many talks and meetings, PUBG is finally ready to head over to console as an exclusive for Xbox One. Microsoft is currently in talks with Bluehole to extend its PUBG exclusivity.
Now there are many similar games that were released before PUBG but they all spawned from Brendan Greene a.k.a. ‘PlayerUnknown’, the gamer behind the PUBG idea. He started the concept by diligently modding the military-shooter game, Arma 2. The concept was just the right amount of competitiveness that borders on addictive, garnering attention from the community.

Microsoft Discusses An Exclusivity Extension

As far as Bluehole is concerned, founder Chang Byung-gyu is all for bringing PUBG to consoles as it gives them a greater reach of players. Microsoft sealed the deal to be the first console to introduce PUBG to its player base. There isn’t a solid date yet but it will happen some time in November so we’re about a month away. However, Microsoft has approached Bluehole in hopes of extending its exclusivity period which could be a game changer for Sony’s console.
A representative from Microsoft has declined further elaboration stating:

“Right now, the team is solely focused on bringing the best game possible to Xbox One and PC. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

It is common that games have a three month period of exclusivity. Hence, it is not likely that PUBG will be available on PlayStation 4 by 2017. However, if Bluehole agrees to extend PUBG exclusivity for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 players will have to wait a little longer. In which case, the PlayStation 4 version will probably only be available mid 2018.
At any rate, Fortnite Battle Royale already beat PUBG to the lucrative punch since it’s on almost every platform including PlayStation 4. Fortnite’s free-to-play PvP mode celebrated 7 million players last week. Last Sunday, they hit 525, 000 PCU (peak concurrent users) with 3.7 million DAU (daily active users). While this number is huge, it’s nothing in comparison to PUBG who is so close to hitting 2 million PCU. Imagine the numbers PUBG could reach if it is available on more platform.
