26th December, 2025 – SEAGM is proud to announce the release of its first-ever game developer documentary, created in collaboration with one of Malaysia’s leading studios, Passion Republic Games. This 15-minute documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the studio developed its internationally recognised title, GigaBash, from early concept to final release.

More than just a game showcase, the documentary is designed to spotlight the people, processes, and career opportunities that make up Malaysia’s growing game development and animation industry. It aims to inspire Malaysians—especially students and early-career creatives—who are curious about what it truly takes to build a video game.

A Deep Dive into the Game Development Pipeline

The documentary opens with the Project Coordinator, who introduces viewers to the overall production pipeline and explains how multiple departments collaborate throughout development. This sets the foundation for understanding how a game like GigaBash moves from an idea to a fully playable title.

From there, Game Designers share their thought processes behind crafting gameplay mechanics, characters, and environments. They discuss how open brainstorming, iteration, and drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources helped shape GigaBash’s unique and original roster of characters.

From Concept to Creation

Once ideas are established, Concept Artists translate them into visual designs. The documentary highlights how multiple concepts are explored, revised, and sometimes discarded before reaching a final direction—emphasising that creative iteration is a critical part of game development.

These approved designs are then passed on to 3D Modellers, who convert 2D artwork into detailed 3D assets. Riggers and Animators work closely together to implement skeletal structures and animations, allowing characters to move, attack, and react in expressive and dynamic ways.

Alongside them, VFX Artists enhance the visual experience with optimised effects such as energy beams, explosions, and impact visuals—ensuring the game remains visually exciting while maintaining performance.

The Technical and Audio Backbone

On the technical side, Programmers are responsible for coding every action seen on screen, ensuring gameplay mechanics, animations, and systems work seamlessly together. Their work forms the backbone that ties all creative elements into a cohesive experience.

Meanwhile, Audio Designers collaborate across teams to create sound effects for every movement, attack, and interaction, as well as contribute to GigaBash’s downloadable content (DLC) soundtrack. The documentary highlights how audio plays a vital role in reinforcing feedback and immersion during gameplay.

Ensuring Quality Through Rigorous Testing

The documentary also shines a spotlight on Quality Assurance (QA)—a role often overlooked by players. QA testers logged over 2,000 hours of playtime, repeatedly testing mechanics, animations, and interactions to identify bugs and improve overall quality.

In addition to internal testing, the QA team actively engages with the GigaBash community, reviewing feedback and gameplay clips submitted through the game’s Discord channel. This close connection between developers and players plays a key role in refining the final product.

Supporting Malaysia’s Creative Ecosystem

Produced by SEAGM, the documentary reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the gaming ecosystem—not just through digital products and services, but by amplifying the stories of the people behind the games.
