Warframe Mobile is out! What’s it like, and Should You Play It?

Written by Sean

Digital Extremes, simply referred to as DE,  are the developers & publishers of Warframe. Warframe is a third-person looter-shooter & action game that combines MMORPG role playing, TPS shooting mechanics, and MOBA gameplay systems. It’s available on PC, Xbox, Playstation and the Nintendo Switch. But in February 2026: DE announced that Warframe Mobile launched for both Android & iOS, and I’ve been playing it since the start of March.

While that may not sound like big news to you, as a Warframe player myself I got curious about how the game would play on my phone. I decided to give it a shot back in the first week of March, and I think it’s a little rough around the edges. It’s fun, but there are a few things I think you should know before getting into it. So without further ado: These are some details on Warframe Mobile, my feedback on it, and if you should play it.

Introduction

Warframe PC vs Warframe Mobile

Warframe PC – Tutorial Cutscene (In-game)

Warframe Mobile – Tutorial Cutscene (In-game)

Upon login as an existing player, I had to play through the game’s introduction and tutorial segment again. And unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any way you can activate cross-save and sync accounts together immediately after an install. You need to create a Warframe Mobile account and play through the tutorial before you can log out and access cross-save. So as it stands the tutorial is something that all players, both existing and new, will have to play through on a fresh install.

While that doesn’t really sound like a seamless shift from PC to mobile, everything in the new player experience was exactly the same in my experience. Not a lot has changed between mobile & PC or console versions, and that’s a kudos to DE for a great technical achievement. Warframe’s artstyle also translates well into mobile gameplay, and the game’s refreshed tutorial looks about as good as it does on PC. More on the graphics later, however.

Details – UI/UX, & Some Observations

Warframe PC – Navigation screen

I dealt with the tutorial segment quickly, and I got cross-save up and running in just 8 minutes so I could enjoy my PC account data. This is the part where you call me old because as a long-time player I was completely clueless about how to activate cross-save. And despite that, getting cross-save done was remarkably quick, and I knew exactly where I needed to go thanks to a polished account syncing process. Everything I needed to know about cross-save and everything I needed to provide was laid out clearly and concisely. After cross-save was done, I could go straight into regular gameplay.

During regular gameplay, what interested me was how a lot of Warframe’s content didn’t need to be translated into mobile gameplay. Regular gameplay in Warframe typically involves a lot of interaction with the loadout and navigation menus, and there are no significant differences between platforms. You edit your loadout through the same Arsenal UI on both platforms, and you start missions from the same Navigation UI.

Granted, the UI sizing is different across platforms as none of it would make sense for mobile otherwise. But If I’m being honest, I expected a lot of the UI to be way different on mobile given how many menus & buttons Warframe’s UIs have. I have to say I’m gladly surprised by how familiar the Warframe experience is on my phone.

The only differences between the two versions I could see are their graphics and framerates/performance on their respective platforms, where I think your experience can vary wildly.

Feedback – Gameplay & Performance

Gameplay (& Graphics)

Warframe Mobile – In-Combat (Plains of Eidolon)

After I got cross-save working, I did a few regular missions and then did some Perita Rebellion runs. And sadly, it’s not looking good here. I found it hard to see anything during regular combat.

The game’s manageable if you’re fighting just a few enemies, but fighting big groups of enemies becomes a confusing mess. Damage numbers are spread out in front of you and the controls fight for space while you fight for your life. While it is possible to resize & reposition the control buttons, there are no options to resize or reposition the HUD like Warframe PC. It’s just not like the PC release where you can fine-tune text sizes, UI sizes, and adjust your HUD margins.

The graphics are also heavily toned down for mobile devices, and the controls take up a noticeable amount of space on the screen. That’s to be expected, as Warframe does have a lot of content to dive into and controls to learn. But the graphics are noticeably downgraded from PC to Mobile. Messy combat turned my screen into a mess of pixels, especially when I had dynamic resolution turned on. And while models looked fine, textures got blurry and environmental details were either lost or looked unpolished on my device.

…it’s not looking good here. I found it hard to see anything during regular combat.

Yes, I know I just said the Mobile tutorial looks about as good as the PC version. But I think one of Warframe’s strongest points is its visuals & graphics quality. The moment you look a little closer during gameplay, Warframe Mobile’s graphics can fall flat on its face. Details like moss on rocks can look plain ugly and feel like missed opportunities or a half-baked effort for beautification.

For mobile devices, I think the graphics are fine as-is. But they are noticeably worse than the PC release. It’s not a deal breaker, but I think it is something to consider before getting into Warframe Mobile.

Performance

Warframe Mobile  – Tutorial Character Select

Comparatively, Warframe’s PC version is a much smoother experience than its mobile port.

The gameplay in Warframe is the same hack & slash super soldier + guns blazing loop across platforms. But, there’s noticeably less frames per second for Mobile players’ eyes to feast on. Warframe PC is a remarkably well-optimised game, as it can run at a stable 60 fps on nearly any decent system. However, Warframe Mobile can feel very choppy no matter what graphics settings you choose. I suspect that it will be unplayable on a low-end device.

My Samsung A26 barely averages 25 fps with just a few graphics options turned on, and I had to resort to lowering all my graphics settings just to have a playable game. Framerates dip really badly in high-end or very recent content like the Perita Rebellion missions, and especially during heavy combat. The performance is sorely lacking, and I suspect it comes down to poor game optimisation since Warframe simply was not made with mobile devices in mind. If you have a slower device, I suggest unticking as many graphics options as you can, and enabling dynamic resolution. Doing these will help to extend your device’s battery life during play and improve playability for slower phones.

I reckon if you’ve got a flagship smartphone or the knowledge to de-bloat a basic phone for gaming, your experience will be much smoother. But you have a tablet or a gaming phone, use those instead. Warframe may be 13 years old, but it will be hard on your mobile hardware and your battery life will nosedive during gameplay.

So Should You Play It?

Warframe: The Shadowgrapher

Here’s what I think: If you have a fast device that can support heavy gaming: Yes, absolutely. It’s exactly what one might expect from its title: It’s Warframe for your mobile device. But if you have a slow device: you need to ask yourself if you’re willing to spend time and effort to make it playable.

For what it’s worth, Warframe Mobile is a well-made port of the game. Even if you’re a new player, its controls are intuitive and there are no changes to any parts of the UI that feel distant from the PC version. Gameplay in social spaces & player housing are identical across platforms and it makes gameplay seamless, should you wish to try it on PC as well. And while the graphics can be compromised, the gameplay loop is highly customisable and well-suited for mobile gaming.

The catch is that even if you like MMORPGs, it’s only real pain point is what may be a deal breaker: You might need to get a faster mobile device to have a playable experience, or heavily compromise in graphics otherwise.

It may have so many controls that it will take time to get used to any of it. But I think Warframe Mobile has potential to be a great mobile game despite its current flaws. If I could sum it up with one sentence, it would be this: Warframe Mobile is a buttonfest that tests both you & your phone. The question is whether or not you are really willing to sacrifice your time & effort to play.
