Selangor Cyber Games 2018 returns

For the fifth time in a row, the Selangor Cyber Games is back in action – all made possible by Selangor Sports Council, Mineski Events Team Malaysia, and Big Machinez. The event has become an annual occurrence ever since it first begun back in 2014. As for the 2018 rendition, it comes with a total of MYR 250,000 prize pool for over 2500 competitors from all over Malaysia. Happening at Empire City, Petaling Jaya, the event will be held on October 27 and 28.

Featured games in SCG 2018

This year around, there are two new games coming in as new additions to SCG 2018. For the first time ever, teams can sign up to compete in PES 2019 and Mobile Legends. Games returning are FIFA 19, Tekke 7, PUBG and Dota2. Here’s a division of the games plus their respective prize pool.

i. Dota 2 – MYR 70,000 (320 slots)

ii. PUBG – MYR 20,000 (64 slots)

iii. FIFA 19 – MYR 60,000 (512 slots)

iv. PES 19 – MYR 20,000 (128 slots)

v. Tekken 7 – MYR 30,000 (164 slots)

vi. Mobile Legends Bang Bang – MYR 50,000 (640 slots)

There is, however, a limited slot of players allowed to compete in the Selangor Cyber Games 2018. If you’re interested, make sure to sign up quickly to reserve a slot before it’s full.

Besides the main event which is the tournament itself, there’s also the Push The Limit LAN Party. This is more casual and is open to just about anyone – with a fee, of course. Open for up to 300 esports enthusiasts, this 48 hours event is supported by the local youth movement. It’ll feature various activities, aiming to function as a forum for open discussion amongst gamers.

Minister of Selangor launches event

The official launch of the event was officiated by the Minister of Selangor, Amirudin Shari yesterday during a press conference. He expresses his support for the esports scene and acknowledges it as a vital career path for millennials. The state is fully behind lending a hand in the growth of the local esports scene.

When asked about the integration of sports into the educational syllabus, the minister agrees that gaming brings about positive growth to youngsters. He added that gaming functions as a medium to encourage coding. This aligns with the state’s vision of “Selangor Smart State”.

The Selangor Cyber Games 2018 is sponsored by a myriad of companies that makes this event possible! Working together with Acer Predator, Thermaltake, SEA Gamer Mall, TIME dotCom, Zotac, Empire City, and Moonton. After officiating the event, the minister handed out a token of appreciation to the sponsors.
