Happy Pokémon Day!

27 years ago today, Nintendo released the original Pokémon™ Red and Pokémon Green games in Japan. *Feel old yet, we know we do*

To celebrate this auspicious and festive day, Nintendo announced several “titan-sized” news updates about the Pokémon ScarletPokémon VioletPokémon UNITEPokémon Café ReMix games, Pokémon Sleep and Pokémon GO Plus +.

Pokémon UNITE

A powerful Pokémon is joining the roster in Pokémon UNITE! Introducing the legendary Pokémon, Zacian. Be on the lookout for Zacian’s Weald event today where players can complete missions for in-game items and obtain Zacian’s Unite license. Zacian will also appear in a special quick battle, Boss Rush.

Pokémon™ Café ReMix

Pokémon™ Café ReMix is a free-to-play puzzle video game. If you’re in the mood for some flavour from Paldea, start the game and sink your appetite into this brand-new event.  into a new event. Choose one of the three first partner Pokémon from Paldea to join your staff—plus, keep an eye out for a new menu item, the Paldea plate.

By logging in during the event, you can also receive a chef outfit for Greninja and take part in deliveries with five-star chefs joining the café staff.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

Moving on to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

  • You can take part in a special Tera Raid Battle online from today onwards. Try to catch one of two Paradox Pokémon: Walking Wake if you have Pokémon Scarlet or Iron Leaves if you have Pokémon Violet. Please check the game for more info**.

  • If you link up to Pokémon GO, you can now send postcards to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Vivillon’s pattern may change based on the location data of the postcards.

  • Pokémon HOME support for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet is planned for this spring.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet DLC announced

New adventures are coming to the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet later this year.  However, this will be paid DLC content called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.  It will be split into two parts:

  • Part 1: The Teal Mask (coming fall 2023)—Visit the Land of Kitakami as part of a school trip.

  • Part 2: The Indigo Disk (coming winter 2023)—Study as an exchange student at Blueberry Academy as your adventures expand beyond the Paldea region. (Wait, beyond the Paldea region?!)

Legendary Pokémon like Ogerpon and Terapagos will appear in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Apart from that, there will be new stories coming where you can discover how these Pokémon fit into your adventures. Familiar Pokémon that you haven’t met in Paldea will show up to greet you too.

Part 1 will be playable starting later this year. There are also special purchase bonuses when you pre-order the DLC now.

(If you already own either Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet, just make sure you choose the right option.)

It was first announced in May 2019, Pokémon Sleep aims to offer a fun and enriching experience to Trainers by having a player’s time spent sleeping—and the time they wake up—affect the gameplay. Today it was announced that Pokémon Sleep is slated to launch in summer 2023 for iOS and Android devices.

The Pokémon GO Plus + accessory uses Bluetooth® Low Energy technology to link with smartphone apps for use in Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sleep gameplay. For Pokémon GO, the Pokémon GO Plus + enables players to throw Poké Balls automatically. Pokémon Sleep players can use the device to track their sleep with their smartphones. The Pokémon GO Plus + will be available on July 14, 2023.
