Not all games have to have amazing 3D graphics to be great. Oxenfree will get your heart pumping and your brain confused because 2.5D games are not usually this intense. Check it out, you can go download your Oxenfree free right here.

What is Oxenfree?

Oxenfree is a story-intense 2.5 dimension side-scroller game. I say 2.5D because the graphics are heavily animated, giving it extra depth instead of having everything on one plane. The artstyle is quite simple but that doesn’t mean it’s not any less brilliant.
There is not much action in this game, so if that’s more your thing, this may not be the game for you. However, if you love your story-rich indie games, this is definitely right up your alley. This game could be compared to Life is Strange due to the fact that its story revolves around teenagers and decision making takes up most of the gameplay.
Oxenfree is also well-known for its voice acting so you don’t have to worry about cringy cutscenes ruining the storyline for you. The game has an interesting way of twisting supernatural occurences into its story. It’s not like you’re being chased by a giant monster. The thrill slowly sneaks up on you and seems to last the whole game.

Ratings

9/10 Overwhelming Positive – Steam
8.2/10 – IGN
83% – PC Gamer
81% – Metacritic
The people who enjoyed this game absolutely loved it. But the people that didn’t, hated it. As always, the great debate spawns from a difference in preferance. Many critics dubbed this a walking simulator. Yes, like most story-rich games, it has a slow build up. Therefore you might feel like the choices you make in the beginning don’t matter and put you off the game. However, if you go into the game without reading up about it. The mystery in the beginning will hook you in.
All in all, it’s always good to try new things. It’s free, so why not?
