Mother. Who could forget their warm embrace, their tupperware collection and their ability to find anything in the house that we can’t. We can always count on them!
What better way to celebrate them than during this Mother’s Day! We prepared a list of the best video game mothers that are mothering according to SEAGM staff.
1. May from It Takes Two - Wan
Who knew a tiny doll has such a big heart. May is the proof! She’s a furious mother that will go through anything just to get back to her daughter, Rose. Yes, including that one scene where – SPOILER ALERT – she had to kill a cute elephant. Let’s just hope that the elephant was not a mother.
2. Yennefer from the Witcher 3 - Me
Now.. I know that Yennefer and Ciri are not biological. But hear me out. She did everything and suffered through so much just to meet Ciri again. And when she did meet her, she decided to sacrifice herself afterwards in order to protect her. I think that’s more than enough to be called a mother.
3. Nyx from Hades - Hazman
Another non-biological mom. Listen, we didn’t think it would be this hard to find biological mothers in games, okay!
Anyway, Nyx defies the Olympians gods by bringing Zagreus, Son of Hades, back from the dead and has been taking care of him since. She even helped him escape the Underworld to meet his biological mother (hey, we found one but Nyx’s better). On top of that, NYX’S GOT A COOL VOICE!
4. Clementine from Telltale's The Walking Dead - Kaiyi
Alright, we give up. Let’s just change the title to stepmom who stepped up!
Clementine never has it easy. Her parents lost, her close friends gone and Lee, her guardian angel, died. It is such a grueling world and when she had the chance to take care of another helpless kid much like Lee taking care of her, she took it even though she is still a child herself. Lee would’ve been proud of you, Clem.
5. Freya from God of War (2018) - Ashley
Finally! A biological mother!
The relationship between Freya and Baldur, her son, is very complicated. Freya put a spell on Baldur that protects him from anything, to save him from a prophecy that foretold his death. The spell also relinquished all of Baldur’s feelings and emotions, leaving him to only be an immortal husk devoid of any humanity. He despise her for this.
Freya may not be the best mother, but I applaud her protective intentions to do what’s best for her child.
