Say hello to Joseph, who has achieved impressive legal successes recently. Let’s get to know him and what’s inside his mind about this recognition while being a part of SEAGM!
Hi Joseph, congratulations on your achievement for being recognized as a Legal 500 GC Powerlist honoree in Malaysia!
Q1: How do you feel about being honored with such a prestigious recognition?
Ans: This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of my team, and I am grateful for their support and contributions. I am also grateful to the company for their trust and confidence.
Q2: Can you tell us about your journey that led to this achievement?
Ans: When I was a litigation lawyer, my primary role was to advocate for my client’s interests. Often, it is a competitive and adversarial environment. Transitioning to being an in-house legal manager, this means that I need to think strategically and provide practical solutions to legal problems. The transition was not easy but is ultimately rewarding. Having a shift in mindset helps.
Q3: How do you think this recognition will impact your career and your role in SEAGM and legal industry?
Ans: I hope that this recognition raises awareness of SEAGM’s commitment to legal compliance and risk management. I also hope that this can help me to advance meaningful relationships with key stakeholders in the company.
Q4: What advice do you have for aspiring legal professionals who aim to achieve similar recognition in the future?
Ans: Work hard and be dedicated to your craft. If you want to achieve great things, you need to be willing to put in the work. It also means to learn new things and challenge yourself. You need to be able to work well with others and be willing to share credit. You should help out colleagues, even if it is not your job.
Q5: Can you share a memorable experience in SEAGM that you believe contributed to this recognition?
Ans: Working at SEAGM has allowed me to explore and challenge myself to understand and learn new areas of law. I have been given the opportunity to think strategically, which has helped me achieve this recognition. One of my most memorable experiences was developing and coming up with creative solutions for esports players to be recognized as employees of a company. This had never been done before, as esports players were typically hired as fixed-term contractors. We managed to pull it off, thanks to the creative ideas of other departments as well.
SEAGM would also like to express a sincere gratitude to Winnie, our Legal Counsel for her invaluable support to Joseph throughout the journey. Your expertise has undoubtedly played a significant role in achieving this remarkable recognition. Together, we stand proud as representatives of SEAGM, demonstrating our commitment to excellence and innovation.
Congratulations once again, Joseph, on this well-deserved honor. May your future endeavors continue to shine brightly as you inspire all of us.
