Fallout 76 cross-play will not be a thing

Despite Sony releasing a statement that they said yes to cross-play, Bethesda Interactive said otherwise. Bethesda Marketing Chief, Pete Hines, in his twitter stated that Fallout 76 cross-play is not going to happen. He cited that since the game is close to its launch date, Bethesda aims to just focus on ensuring that happens. Hines added that the Break It Early Test Application – or B.E.T.A. is in their sights come October.

Fallout 76 Cross-Play not going to happen, what about other games?

In early August, Hines stated that having cross-play would be a nice addition to Fallout 76. However, for Elder Scrolls: Legends, it would be a critical component to the gameplay. If cross-play becomes available for Elder Scrolls: Legends than players would have the ability to switch to a different console mid game. Now that Sony has said yes to cross-play then Bethesda would be able to implement what they have planned for Elder Scrolls: Legends. That is if Sony agrees to it.
Fallout 76’s B.E.T.A. begins in October. Bethesda prefers to stick to their course of action and that is to ensure that their beta and launch goes as planned. Having to realign their focus to making cross-play work for Fallout 76 is not what they have in mind.

Bethesda’s decision is still funny in a way. Just a while ago, they were criticizing Sony for not allowing crossplay by saying “Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like”. Now that Sony has given the green light, Bethesda isn’t even sure anymore for cross-play in Fallout 76.
All in all, Fallout 76 will still continue without cross-play. If they do get the feature in the future, that would be great. If they don’t, people are still going to be able to play the game anyway. Fallout 76 will be coming out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC and scheduled to be released on November 14, 2018.
