Horror games definitely give me night terror but I’m addicted to the thrill. So, I looked up a bunch of horror games to give myself a cheap thrill and gave them all a try. Here’s a list of horror games that you can check out to taste the horror and the best part; they’re all free. We specifically picked web-based games only so you don’t have to go through the fuss of installation and all that. Turn off the lights, grab your earphones and let’s get started.

My Father’s Long, Long Legs

This is a text-based game and even though it takes some moments to pick off, your patience will be rewarded – keep going. This game invites you to a journey of discovery as there are multiple endings for you to unveil. You play as a young woman who is retelling story of her past about her childhood home. Try this one out if you enjoy a good chills-to-the-bone sort of story. I wasn’t expecting anything else to happen until I started hearing something. Will you find your brother? Oh and, don’t forget to wear earphones!

Lights Out, Please

Lights Out, Please is more of an interactive story than it is a game. Give it a chance and let it tell you ghost stories comprising of urban legends and childhood fears. I don’t have much to say about this one since if I do I’d be spoiling you, give it go and see for yourself.

The Visitor

You’re an alien, landing on earth via a meteor. Your mission: eat all living creatures and transform. It’s kinda cute and gory at the same time, in my opinion. But then again I like gore soooo… Well, give this point-and-click mini-game a try.

Alone in the Dark

This game was quite a big deal back then having been named the “First Ever 3D Horror Survival Game” by the Guinness Book of World Records. The story it has to offer is definitely worth sitting through the old school graphic. You will play either as Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood and investigate a haunted mansion. Solve puzzles and save yourself, can you escape?

A Dark Room

A Dark Room is a text-based adventure, so in a way, it’s like reading an interactive story. The game begins with you waking up in a cold room and you then the fire. The story unfolds with each unraveling event. The script is interesting and will definitely keep you intrigued for a few hours or even a few days. More options will be unlocked as you progress, as you can see via my own progression in the screenshot. If you want something to idle in the background, this is the game for you. Light that fire and hopefully, with a bit of patience, you’ll find out how tough you are.

There you have it, cheap thrills as promised. Overall I would say A Dark Room is my favorite simply because of how long you can keep playing it. If you’re looking for something more substantial, we’ll have that curated for you soon!
