Publisher confirms Streets of Rage 4 is in development

How many of you spent hours at the arcade back in the 90’s? If you did, then you probably know the iconic beat-em-up game, Streets of Rage. After 24 years, publisher DotEmu finally announced the comeback of the series with Streets of Rage 4. The game is currently in development by Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games.

Streets of Rage

Streets of Rage also known as Bare Knuckles in Japan, originally debuted back in 1991 and rose to success in the beat-em-up franchise. This gave birth to the sequels, Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3. Both were released in 1992 and 1994 respectively. This was way back during the golden days of arcades and the Sega Genesis. The game flourished and made a name for itself in the 2D brawler beat-em-up genre.
It’s probably a pleasant surprise for fans of the game since this really came out of nowhere – 24 years later. Look forward to new mechanics and new original story.

Like most beat-em-ups, you can choose to play either solo or co-op. It is still unsure whether the co-op is offline or online only. Either way, having to beat up bad guys as you make your way through to the final area with a friend by your side is always great. At any rate, this game wasn’t made just for the veterans or old fans. With new visuals and new mechanics, the game will definitely be able to attract the current generation of gamers as well.

Currently, there is no release date for the game nor is there any information as to which platform Streets of Rage 4 will be available on. If you have not checked out Axel Stone’s rugged new look or how stunning Blaze Fielding looks, check out the trailer in the box above.
